My Life in Recipes
A Memoir of all Things Food
Join me on my journey as I grow into a mostly ordinary but sometimes great cook. This book is as much about the cultural history of food as it is about me. You will learn something about the history of recipes while meeting some of the many, often eccentric characters and humorous events that have been part of my culinary development. From the home ec teacher who believed white sauce should be the main stay of every cook's repertoire to the gourmet group where I brought what looked like "the dog's supper," they've made their way into my story. If you like food and you like people, well, at least most of them, I think you'll like my book.
Not a traditional cookbook, an eclectic mix of recipes accompanies my story. There's my English grandmother's recipe for rocks, a couple recipes for brownies, my personal recipe for tortilla soup, and even a recipe for smoothie using chia seeds. They're all fun to look at and maybe to cook.
